Cleaning Up

Although the Causeway was usable by this morning and there was a very limited ferry service between St. George's and Hamilton, after a phone call with Francis I decided not to head in to work today. The Causeway is currently only open to traffic in one direction at any one time and there were waits of up to an hour to get across. And after spending much of the weekend helping out down at Godet & Young we still had a lot to do to clean up Newstocks.

We spent several hours this morning raking up the leaves and sawing up the fallen trees in our yard. I reconnected the hi-fi equipment in the living room while Mandy hosed down the walls and windows of the house in an attempt to get rid of the debris stuck to them. Although pest control came last week to spray the house, all the pesticide sprayed outside was washed away by Fabian and now we're fighting an ant infestation in the kitchen. We had a heavy rain shower this morning, which is bad news as far as the roof above the porch is concerned - if the plaster gets saturated then we'll probably lose it too. But slowly things are returning to normal.

One step forward, two steps back. Got back home after dinner over at Bobby and Verna's to discover our power had gone off again, and a BELCO truck at the bottom of our road. Typical. Just hope it won't be for long.
