Second Spring
With autumn just around the corner, Bermuda is experiencing a second spring.
After Fabian threw down half of the trees on the Island, blasted most of the leaves off the rest and left the remainder brown and withered, Bermuda was looking barren and scorched. But now, two weeks after the storm, trees and bushes all over the Island are budding again. The alamander in our back yard is getting greener by the day and is bursting with small red flowers - frankly it's looking better than it did before the hurricane arrived.
The Island's still not going to be back to normal by the wedding on Saturday - there are still too many splintered and fallen trees and the roads are still edged with too much leafy debris for that - but it's encouraging to see those buds coming back.
The situation with the Causeway seems to have improved too. The last few days I've not needed to queue for more than fifteen minutes to get across, and with the discovery that the bridge is now also open between 11.30pm and 12.30pm every night (albeit supposedly for shift workers only), it is at least now possible to go out in Hamilton on an evening and still be able to get back to St. George's afterwards.

Poor you Phil - I can tell you're really missing the cold and rain which returned with avengance yesterday to the UK. Last week had been incredibly warm and sunny - great now that I have a south facing office now that we've moved down to Docklands - but yesterday it all turned a bit nasty. And it's due to get colder ! Glad to hear the strike's over, by the way.
PS - which can't you wait more for, night access to the causeway or your wedding? I was just a little perturbed that the causeway came first, it almost suggests ...
