Hogge Wilde
Toronto had moose in 2000. London had cows in 2002. And now Bermuda has joined the bizarre international craze for turning sculptures of animals into works of art with the appearance of 50 life-sized pigs at the Hamilton Princess Hotel. Apparently pigs were chosen for Bermuda's exhibition in recognition of the fact that they were the Island's original occupants.
The sculptures have all been decorated by local artists, children, and organisations, and form an impressive collection; anyone in Bermuda between now and the end of April could do worse than head over to the Princess to check them out. Visitors have chance to vote for their favourite porcine in a bewildering variety of categories, from the prosaic 'Best In Show' to the whimsical 'Miss Congeniality'. As with similar exhibitions elsewhere in the world, the sculptures will eventually be auctioned off with the proceeds going to art education and public art.
One of my personal favourites was PADI the Pig, shown here. More of my pictures of the painted porcines can be seen here.

Phil: Scrapple is a mid-Atlantic states breakfast from the US. It's deep fried pork (of sorts) with cornmeal and spices. And they think haggis is gross.

grrrrrrrrr - hogs, original occupants? Bah! They were the first beats to ever be introduced by man!
If you wanted to paint truly Bermudian animals, you'd be painting skinks man... SKINKS!!!
Graeme - I'm in. Let's round them up and put them all in a pen.

Dear Limey:
I need advice about the care and feeding
of my Masterworks Hogge which I'm keeping
here at Parapet -- an adorable pet.
I wanna know how hogges came to Bermuda;
whoever has a clue for Stew, would ya
please send me a note ? It would be fine
if you'd like to visit to meet my swine.
