Rating System

I've got a favour to ask.

As you may have noticed, I've introduced a rating system for the posts on the site.

I've done this for two reasons. First, to help me understand the stuff you like and the stuff you don't so I can perhaps write more of the former and less of the latter. And second, to make it easier for casual readers to pick out the wheat from the chaff as they're skimming through the archives.

I don't have the time to develop my own rating system, so I've chosen to use one provided by NewsGator, one of the leading newsreader applications. Unfortunately, to stop people voting more than once the system requires you to sign up for the free edition of Newsgator Online before you can vote. I know this is a pain but I'd be extremely grateful if at least the regular readers of this site would consider doing so. It should only take a minute.

I may experiment with extending the ranking system to the comments too, which I think would benefit even more from it. However I fear that doing so may introduce intolerable delays in loading the page on posts with many comments. If anyone has any other suggestions as to how I might encourage people to write more thoughtful comments I'd love to hear them.

I give you 7 stars for the site....cant rate you not enough stars for our Star Limey.

How about a formal debate section? Where you let two posters argue the positive and negative of a postion, then open the comments for all to post after the debate and vote for the winner? kinda of like a side link to your posts?

Excellent idea, Galt, and one that I've considered myself before.

I've also considered allowing guest posts on specific issues.

In both cases, posters would have to be willing to write under their own names. They would preferably be well-known members of the community too.

Should anyone out there be interested in either of these propositions, please contact me by email (my address is at the bottom of the sidebar).

I rate this post as a 1 out of 5.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

How about a section on the films and games you rate? That would be cool.
