Bermuda's independence debate has now reached the pages of one of the UK's broadsheet newspapers - The Independent, appropriately enough - with this article and editorial.

This topic had reached here? I must go out and buy the Independent (I ussally only buy the Times as the Independent is moving more and more to the right of the politicial ladder ie conservative).
But what they say about black natinalisum and anti-colionialisum is true atleast from the point of Alex Scot and a section of his party. What im surprised is they blatently came out and said black natinalisum and anti-coloinalisum (words that the Bermuda newspapers may be too timid to say).
And you should not trust opion polls as they are always influenced by there creators.
Who knows mayby the British goverment will adress this matter if a reporter asks it. Now this probally wont happen as the UK has too many other problems do deal with (like the generaal election in May) but it might get there attaention as it is the oldest British colony and is the only to talk about independence in the 21st century.
Let me get this straight in case I have missed the point amid your tortuous butchery of the English language - you think that the UK Independent newspaper is MORE right wing than the Times??? I know Blair is none too popular with some sections of society right now but I don't believe the political scene can have changed quite that much since I was last there....
As for your typing, please consider using an application with a spell checker before submitting the post - or drop the charade of trying to be something other than what you are. Your poor spelling is truly inventive and can not be explained by fast fingers alone. Your use of syntax suggests to me that the poor spelling is deliberate.
What charade? So I make a few spelling mistakes your going to attack me for that? I don’t have to use a spelling check if I don’t want to.
And when was the least time you were in the UK? As anyone should know the world of politics changes constantly. And if you were to read The Independent you would see that they are supporting the conservative party do don’t be fooled by their name.
And The Times is not right winged or left winged but has columnists and reporters from both the right and left.
A little off topic really but I think you might find that the Times does lean a little to the right.
It could be, one would assume, because I believe it is owned by the Rupert Murdoch corporation.
He is a big supporter of the right wing US republicans, and the present Governments in Australia and Italy.
Just my opinion. I dont mind your spelling mistakes at all.
Nicely put David C... I would agree 100% having most recently lived there in 2001... I would not think old Murdoch would let any of his papers or TV stations slide left of center(re) LOL....he keeps a tight watch... On that note there has been an amusing battle between Ted Turner and Murdoch's Fox News network.....(My Dad used to call Ted, Mrs Jane Fonda for his networks' lefty slant!)
Its nice to see comments from our bys appearing in the UK National media. Maybe it will alert more of our Bermudian students that they need to protect their EU Passports that are helping keep some of those educational fees. Meanwhile why are we even thinking about Independence when young black men are turning up in body bags. I guess this is number4 and 5 if the twins are not found alive. There is no internal security at the moment time to deal with the fallout of the drug business in Bermuda.Lets shelve this farce regarding Independence ..there are just too many other pressing social problems!!!!
Loosing the ability to live and work in over 25 countries (EU) would be a big loss. And if you think my judgment on independence affects me personally well it wont affect me as I have EU citizenship on my mother’s side.
And if there are problems with internal security what are the regiment doing about it. That is the reason we have them right?
That would entail the Police admitting that they have lost control of the situation.

Politicians are elected to serve the people. If your MP is doing a good job or isn't living up to your expectations, let him or her know. Contact details for all PLP and UBP MPs and senators can be found here.
Yes yes Phil we saw your mention in the article.......
