Driving while disqualified
Is it any wonder that people continue to drive while disqualified when the punishment for doing so is merely a $250 fine?

How boring must bermuda be if someone driving when disqualified gets in the national paper? Who are we to question a fine imposed by a qualified judge who sat through a court case as apposed to deciding the punishment based on a biased report written by a journalist desparate for readers who mentions facts only he chooses to write?

Military Intelligence,

Invisible ink,
Montreal Canadiens,
Partial Cease-Fire
Bermudian Criminal justice,
Is that a knife in your pocket, or an instant jail sentence...

Don't pay half a million in taxes and the fine is also $250.

7 days on bread and water or 6 of the best would be better punishments. These days the the politlcally correct (?LOL?) society we live in will not allow it. Six of the best never did me any harm. It did make be respect authority and pay more consideration to other people though

At one time their was the very real threat of prison for driving while suspended. Sure kept me on the bus.
You want find the problem with speeding, you need look no further than the pathetic fines for traffic offences.

Better Change I agree 100%. Try to stiffen the penalties (even to the point where jail time is a consideration).

Or give up your week-ends for community service for 3 to 6 months. Oh yes, wearing a bright orange jumpsuit whilst you're at it. Oh and don't worry we'll send a bus to pick you up and drop you off.

Many years ago you actually would get jail time, usually 6 weeks, for driving while disqualified. I know two people who did it, including my brother. Many other people of my era elected to obey the law and not drive because of the real risk of doing time.
Driving while disqualified voids the insurance policy on the vehicle also. This is the serious aspect of it, the fact that you are not insured and can cause huge financial difficulties to someone you might injure.
