The elevation of the commentariat

Washington Post blogger Joel Aschenbach has an amusing description of what it's like to run a blog.

This bit in particular prompted a chuckle of recognition:

"...this spring I began allowing “comments,” and the blog suddenly mutated. America, it turns out, is full of smart, clever, creative people who happen to have no interest in working and whose employers have unwisely given them Internet access. Thus every day, on my blog, these strangers show up, just to shoot the breeze, flirt, kvetch, veer off topic and, most of all, pay zero attention to what I have written...

The general trend in blogs seems to be the diminution of the blogger and the elevation of the commentariat."

Great... he's a snitch. Next month this site and other blogs/forums will be blocked...

You're right. Already I am blocked from yahoo mail and hotmail.

gmail was ok for a while, but I think that's been killed off as well.

Oh well, that is working for the Man!

Limey I imagine you sometimes think we're all just a pain in the Aschenbach.
