The third lane

A reader says:

"Saw something completely crazy yesterday on my way home from work and had to take a picture of it. This guy on a bike was having a conversation with his buddy (driving the white car) all the while traveling up Harbour Road. Of course the conversation was interrupted numerous times because of oncoming traffic. But why stop and pull over to chat when you can just use the "third lane"?"

An aspiring winner of a Darwin Award there, I'd say.

Look ma, no brains!

Mmmm - I can beat that one!

Going home the other evening towards Collectors Hill - there was a car in front of me going at (I guess) 28 - 30 kph.

Hanging onto both the drivers window and the passenger window, were two bike riders...chatting away with the occupants...and could not care less about what was happening behind them.

At that stage - I opened the bottle of whisky I had with me...and drank heavily from it.

If you can't beat them - join them.

PS: I am lying about the whisky...the rest is true!

Sounds about right. Anything and everything goes these days...

At least a tourist can blame it on inexperience. Wonder if these are the same people zig zagging in traffic and cutting back too quickly. They are a bigger hazard than the tourist in my opinion.

Isn't it dangerous to operate a camera whilst driving?

@ours: i'm sure the reader had to drive at a really slow speed to ensure that he wasn't putting them in any danger.. by pushing them to move faster....

@all: i remember yelling once to a bunch of nimrods on east broadways that it was a line.. not a lane... much to the disgrace of my passengers !

Not covered.

I wonder who was the jackass operating a camera while he was drivng. Seems to me like he was going for the Darwin "Special Mention Award"!
