Killing the killers: Poll results

Over the last few weeks I've been running a poll seeking current opinions on capital punishment. The results were as follows.

Capital Punishment

Should Bermuda bring back hanging (or any other form of capital punishment)? [834 votes total]

Yes (316) 38%
Not sure (274) 33%
No (244) 29%

I have to admit, I was shocked by the number of people who voted in favour of reinstating the death penalty. When I started this poll I was looking for reassurance that most Bermudians did not want to bring back hanging, as Dame Lois Browne Evans suggested earlier this year. But equally surprising was the large number of respondents who could not make up their mind.

I've outlined my thoughts on capital punishment in my column in today's Royal Gazette. If you wish to comment on this topic, please do so there.
