Well, if that's the case then maybe we should be offering our sympathy!
Hey Limey, if you ever get in a hole, seek truth and reconciliation and if that doesn't work don't consider leaving paradise, just play by the numbers and have a good time. Congrats to the both of you!
Now put down the computer and go play with the wife.

Great start! Congratulations to you both!

Yeah, Robina, she keeps telling me it feels like a lifetime.
Jake, I'm going to ban you for that comment.
Thanks to all for the good wishes. Now, time to shut down the computer and go down something more, er, productive, instead. :-)

Congrats Phill! Just in case you check computer again tonight, which I hope you don't cause I'm sure Mandy will give you a pounding you would rightfully deserve. We'll all play nicely until you return. :)

Lucky your a guy Limey. Usually Bermudian males get sued for divorce once the spouses get their residency. Its tradition. LOL!

Congrats to you both. The early years are the harder ones I've found, so if you are doing good, it gets easier.

Does that mean in eight years you can also stand for election in your constituency? I'd be much happier seeing you as an MP than a voter...

Congratulations and all the best to you lovebirds.

Congratulations!
Has it really been two years? Wow - how time flies. Kids can only be just around the corner. ;)

Two down and five to go. Get through the seven year itch and then worry about voting.
Guess who had a problem at the seven year mark and is still a little bitter?
Congratulations, forgive my cynicism. Two years is just about baby making time Phil.

Congratulations Limey. I just implore you not to get her any gift from the Phoenix Stores.

Phil
2 years!!! - Kid are due soon, whether you like it or not. Remember, it is not up to you!!
Intrigued - 10 years marriage + 7 years residency is the test AND the Bermudian spouse has to support your application. I've heard that this last requirement can create some interesting arguments!!

"Intrigued - 10 years marriage + 7 years residency is the test AND the Bermudian spouse has to support your application. I've heard that this last requirement can create some interesting arguments!!"
And you have to be living together "as man and wife", which makes it all the more interesting. I know of one couple who had decided to divorce, were still living together, but not living as man and wife. The husband actually had a girlfriend. When the husband applied for status with his wife's consent, they were forced to withdraw the application because someone objected on the grounds that they were planning to divorce.

If 50% of married couples divorce anyway surely then this is a dubious requirement particularly if there are children involved
If one partner has severe anti social problems divorce may not be avoidable.
It seems to leave open opportunities for abuse and needs revision if indeed that is the case.

Congrats on 2 years. Don't complain about waiting another 8 years to vote, I've been here for 23 years and still can't vote. My wife and I should have divorced soon after arrival, married Bermudians for 10 years, divorced them and then remarried each other. We would both be able to vote now as well as buy and rent out any property.
Despite all this, I would rather be living here than most other places in the world.

Thanks... I think. I don't have any desire to become an MP though. The only thing I'm vaguely competent at is writing. I just don't have the ability or the stomach for all the schmoozing and politicking I'd have to do.
