Rules of engagement (revised)

As my enthusiasm for blogging slowly returns, it's time to reiterate what this site is and is not, and my expectations of those who choose to comment here.

The primary aim of A Limey In Bermuda is to provide a forum for the discussion of Bermuda-related issues, and to promote understanding between those with different views.

I am not interested in providing untrammelled freedom of speech, however. The ability to comment here is a privilege, not a right. Unless you would prefer to have your comments deleted or be temporarily or permanently banned from commenting, you should:

1. Be genuine. I've been playing a lot of World of Warcraft recently, so when I see a troll my first instinct is to beat it to death. If I think you're just here to stir up trouble you will be swiftly dispatched.

2. Behave respectfully to other commenters. I expect all who participate in the discussions to listen as well as to speak. Seek first to understand, then to be understood. Even if you disagree with the views of others, treat them with civility and agree to differ. You should also refrain from personal insults and excessive profanity. Anonymous commenters will have less leeway than those who write under their own names.

3. Keep your comments relevant to the thread on which you are posting. I want each thread to be a self-contained discussion of a particular issue, to which people can return at a later date. Off-topic comments (including gibberish) clutter the threads and cause the discussion to lose focus.

4. Refrain from posting potentially libellous comments. We could both be sued.

5. Refrain from discussing matters that are currently being heard in a court of law. Such matters are described as sub judice, and the law bans public discussion of them.

6. Leaving a comment in someone else's name is expressly forbidden, unless you have their permission to do so, or your comment is clearly satirical. Anyone caught breaching this rule will receive a lifetime ban from commenting.

7. Avoid doing anything else that might annoy me.

Of course, as these are my rules I reserve the right to ignore them or make up new ones depending on the direction of the wind and what I've had for breakfast.

While I encourage you to publicly disagree with my opinions, I will not tolerate public debate of any of my decisions associated with the running of this site. I reserve the right to ban anyone or delete any comment, for any reason, at any time, without explanation. If you have a problem with anything I do, email me, but remember that ultimately this is my site and I will run it how I see fit. So there.

What did you have for breakfast this morning?

I have resisted the lure of WoW so far, but I can see it overwhelming me in the near future. i expect you and all others who play that post here to help me out and give me free stuff, as well ass powerlevelling me to Uber 733tness. *grin* (JK, I'm an "earn as you go" kinda player... but I do accept gifts!)

Back to the topic. Well said, Limes. You KNOW that the threads will go off on bizarre tangents, but it's nice to know you live in hope!

Uh Limey, I disagree with items 1, 2, 5, and 8. What does everyone else think? I think he should do the opposite! (aaaahhh can't find the satire point thingy!)

And I have legally changed my name to Full Fullish, so I am posting under my real name.

Yay! Comment moderation has been turned off! Work productivity takes a nose dive, and on a Friday too! Double Whammy! ;)

Heh.

I got your back. Down with trolls. I mean the "charismatically challenged."

Full Fullish: "Yay! Comment moderation has been turned off! Work productivity takes a nose dive."

Damn, Yesterday I managed to read all the comments on this site and do some work, Oh well, something's got to give.

!@$%!% Phil, how outrageous! (Does !@$!% count as profanity?)

Just because you provide the ball, the pitch, devote hours and hours of your life to refereeing and maintaining the pitch, you think that gives you the right to make up the rules????

All seems very fair to me. Thrilled you have your energy back.

So tell us, while you had your little break did Mandy actually get a little of your attention or just the games? We all await in anticipation an announcement.

"but remember that ultimately this is my site and I will run it how I see fit."

I couldn't agree more, this site is the fruit of your labour and you should be free to enjoy or dispose of it as you see fit.

:)

My dear friend and colleague, welcome to the right.

I'm proud of you, son...

What is your bidding, my master?

Adolf

Dad! Great to see you on here!

An addendum to No 4 - if a poster on here is sued... you will be too.

Nicolette

I'm well aware of that. I just wanted to make it clear that the poster of the comment could be too.

Phil took a break from the blog?

Its been a busy news week.... Lets get it ON!!!

Uh oh, Phil. The Wife didn't even know you weren't blogging. Was it a World of Warcraft week?
