Wishful thinking

Online news service Tax-News.com had a short piece today highlighting the recent call by BIBA chief Greg Haycock for the Government to bring forward a referendum on independence.

“The message back from our sources of business has been unequivocal – a lingering discussion of independence breeds uncertainty and is encouraging existing and potential clients to look to other jurisdictions for their business,” Mr Haycock observed in a statement.

But it was this bit that caught my attention:

Mr Haycock's warning comes one year after BIBA wrote to Premier Alex Cox detailing the responses from the financial community to the question of independence

A Freudian slip? Here's hoping that Tax-News.com know something that we don't.

You just can't take a break...can you?

;-)

Like my much earlier post re an election and a referendum being held at the same time as being the PLP strategy....as of today in London Alex Scott proved me right by suggesting just that! Looks like it will be a two for one deal! It will be interesting if the country buys the PLP strategy.

BBW - The PLP's only hope is to try and confuse the electorate into thinking that a vote for Independence is a vote for the PLP. They are solely relying on people who will vote for the PLP cause it’s their party and they will vote for no other, no matter what they have done wrong. There are a lot of people like this on the Island. It looks like Alex Cox (?) is going to give us our referendum it sounds, I’m just wondering what kind of tricks the PLP are going to do to make it biased…..

Alex Scott's behaviour is profoundly disrespectful to Bermudians. Government exists for the people, not to fulfil Alex Scott's personal dreams and ambitions. He knows that he does not have public support on this, so he tries to drive the issue forward through trickery, spin, and back channels.

It's no wonder we have so little progress on the issues that Bermudians care about most - the economy, housing, crime, education - he spends all his time trying to push his agenda of self-aggrandizement and independence.

The man is a danger to Bermuda's future, and an embarrassment those in the PLP who are earnestly trying to deliver good governance.

Here's hoping that the PLP delegates' conference this weekend will seek to replace Alex Scott with leaders who are more responsive to the populace. Get back to the issues that count!

The Government refuses to listen to the warnings of BIBA, the Chamber of Commerce, ABIC, and ABIR about the danger to our business sector. These days I am deeply troubled by the jitters and discontent that I hear from my colleagues and customers in that sector. We may not kill the golden goose, but she build her nest elsewhere.

PS: I think that Alex Scott was drunk when he sent that blackberry message. Drunk on power.

I'm stunned by the news this morning about a possible combined election-reforendum and by Calvin Smith's piece in yesterday's Gazette.

It's beyond ridiculous. What a pair of idiots.

According to an MP chum of mine - at a reception yesterday in W'minster the P shuffled into a room full of MPs & various pointless business types who have some various Bermudian connection. He did his usual routine of standing by the bar not talking to anybody with that absurd "special needs" grin on his face - after a while one of the MPs came up to him and said very slowly and loudly "This is the friends of Bermuda reception. Is the person looking after you coming along? Do you need me to get you anything ?"

I imagine its not the first time he's been mistaken for a passenger on the Sunshine Bus.

One of the tricks they might pull is to have walkers at every poll to identify all PLP voters and black voters to vote for Independence and the PLP as a matter of solidarity.I saw this technique used to good effect at Smiths South elections especially after I had marginalized the area....enough floating voters used my ticket as a support for change....I attracted UBP vote and conservative PLP vote that did not want Burch elected....sadly Maxwell Burgess carried the UBP vote with Jim Woolridges help and I never got my chance to represent old Smith's South.

That hurts.

I think he does have a hard time in these social events, having had little practice during his professional life.

There is an art to it, and having a skillful host who understands the agenda that P has, as well as the agenda the guest have in key.

It is effortless when it is done correctly, and PAINFUL when there is no clue.

Hopefully one day it will be better.

Ruby Tuesday - Ha! Hahhahahahahha.....I think that is pricelss. I consider that karma for Scott's comments belittling all of us with "They don't know what they are signing" and the such.....Glad to see what goes around comes around...

BBW - exactly, we no more fall for this trick than let them force it through on a General Election.

But Jake, isn't the point here that NO ONE a the reception knew who he was?

Yes,

The fact that he has less of an international profile is also pretty sad.

For him. For us.

I'm thinking that may be "P" should just quit while he's ahead. Let see in the last few months, he’s made us laugh by over-reacting to someone posting as him on LIB, he's managed to piss off 13,000+ voters by suggesting they are moronic sheep not knowing how to read or comprehend a petition, most of the white electorate by being technically deficient with the use of his blackberry and now he’s managed to piss of British parliament by divulging information publicly which is supposed to be private.

He’s like an anti-spin doctor!
