Of Cabinet and kings
"The time has come," the Limey said,
"To talk of many things:
Of Scott - and shipstones - and senators -
Of Cabinet - and kings"
Every now and again, someone on here floats the idea of having a real-world get-together. But so far, nothing has ever come of it. However, the Wolf has finally persuaded me to organise something.
So tomorrow (Friday) evening I'll be at the Pickled Onion from 5.30pm (ish) onwards. If you're feeling particularly bored or friendless, you're welcome to join me.
Needless to say, I will not be drinking Bud.

I'm in, Dude. Come on you guys, you have nothing to lose but your chains. Your NomDe Plumes. And your money, It's your round.

Aw, I would love to come. Alas, I am stuck here in Limeyland, admiring the many different rainclouds.
I am very curious to meet some of the contributors, maybe we can have one of these get-togethers next time I make it back to Bermuda. Hope you all have a good time, have a black and coke for me.

Its a watering hole with memories of other names....The ^..^ will trott by in the hope of a howling good time!

Ah Wolfie! your speaking my language. I still have some C&F drinks tokens from an happy hour in 1983!!! I kept them as a momento of a very memorable day that I can no longer remember much of (I think). I do remember going to the paraquete afterwards and for some reason driving someone elses car home. A different time, a different, and simpler place Bermuda was back then. Peace!
Sorry Phil, I cannot make it this time. Maybe next!
Posted by Curried Goat on 21.10.05 at 07:56
I can't make it...my son is in hospital.
Posted by ace on 21.10.05 at 08:06
Sadly cannot make it this time - but have a great evening everyone.
Posted by Martin on 21.10.05 at 08:26
Sorry,
I am unable to make it tonight, Damn Dialysis ruining my social life again.
However if I could be so bold as to ask, could our next "meet & greet" be on Tuesday or Thursday, or Saturday as M,W,& F clash with my Dialysis Treatments and generally I am not much fun after having the blood sucked out of my body, cleaned, and returned for four or five hours. I always say if you think life is at it's shitiest TRY DIALYSIS

Ace I hope all goes well with your son....We will wish him and you the best with a clink of greenies! best regards...runnaway ^..^

Good news Limey, the Pickled Onion doesn't serve Bud (its a supplier thing).
I will have the managers put aside a space in the back corner by the fireplace at 5:30, that way lurkers and posters can figure out where to go, (unless you all want to write LIB-Head on your forehead with a Sharpie).
I will endeavor to ensure that there are no sharp objects and that the furniture is screwed down just in case... (insert one of those sarcasm thingies)

Thanks Phil.
Sorry to hear that, Two Cents. Will bear that in mind next time.
Also sorry to hear about your son, ace.

Sorry to hear about the Dialysis, Two Cents. I hope some relief is on the horizen for you.
Best thoughts for your son as well Ace.

Ace and Two Cents, I was feeling sorry for myself, stuck at home recovering from a C-Section with a colicky newborn. Thanks for the reality check. Best wishes to both of you, and Phil, regrets.

Att: Philip Barnett
Hello Philip,
Unfortunately I shall not be there but I would like to send some money towards a round for The Limey and Co's get together in honour of a good friend who passed away recently from cancer.
Clarence "Sly" Wade and I used to meet for cocktails "up the steps", as he'd call the old C&F, and I think he would approve heartily of this gathering of friends of Bermuda.
I shall have some money delivered Att: The Limey, to the restaurant this afternoon.
Thank you for taking care of this.
Sincerely yours.
SmokingGun

Sorry, can't come. Quietly planning the revolution.

Ace & Two Cents, I also wish the best for you and your families.
Posted by SmokingGun on 21.10.05 at 14:12
Thanks for the kind thoughts all. My son is getting better and will probably be out tomorrow. Some kind of chest virus...and he has asthma so it made for a rough time for the poor little guy's breathing.
I've been switching off with my wife at the hospital watching him and watching our older boy and baby daughter at home (although the older boy is at school during the day).
Ironically, as i was writing this my oldest boy's teacher called...he is now sick too and he is an asthmatic as well. I'm currently at home watching the little girl...and cleaning up after she vomits as she is sick also. She coughs until she gags and then hurls up everything in her stomach. She times it well. About ten minutes after i arrive home to trade off with my wife is generally when she decides it is a good time.
Boy...this is gonna be a fun weekend.
hope you guys have fun tonight.

Attention to whom it may concern.....its a wanning moon so this is the REASON why everything is generally not going smoothly at the moment...I know you have great bouncebackability like Wolves F.C. so everything will be fine again soon....I promise King Wolfy the First ^..^

Tiger just admit you have been fooling around with the swing bridge again!
Posted by Big Bad Wolf ^..^ on 21.10.05 at 15:24
Ace - good to hear your son is getting out of the hospital - for more reasons than one. Although, pediatrics is probably the best part of KEMH these days. I wish you well for the next few days.
Limey - I will be there for about 30 mins. Since the furniture is going to be nailed down, did anyone invite Cal?
Posted by bw&p?? on 21.10.05 at 15:58
Man I'd love to join ya, but I don't think I can make it today.
Rodney Dill in Detroit, Michigan.
I'll just get 'pickled' here instead.
Posted by Rodney Dill on 21.10.05 at 16:23
Wish I could be there.
Ace, hope your babies get better soon. Sounds like a tough weekend.
Two Cents, sorry to hear about the dialysis; hope to get to see you on a better night too.
Everyone else have a great time!

Crap.... I never even knew until now.... not that I would have been able to make it. Heavily involved in the MSA Fair, so much so I was not even able to get to a computer to check out LIB till now. Hope all went well, so that it will happen again. Will be there the next time! Chivas all around!

Sorry you couldn't make it last night, but thank you very much indeed for the money you sent over. It was appreciated by all.
Next time your drinks are on us!

More than welcome Limey.
Glad to hear you got a group together.
I look forward to tipping pints next time.
Cheers.

I do not know what happened...after the second Amstel light....I was floating around in my head....The Bloggers through some natual instict hogged the middle of the bar...For some reason the soft light and gentle atmosphere actually made the wild ^..^ in me subside. Only the fair Mandy came along out of the wives....that must change at the next watering hole when the wild life gets together again.Anyway with a cool breeze on my face and what was left of a yellow crecent moon at my back I headed back West to God's country with a smile on my face....It had been a nice end of the week to match all the beautiful weather.

Mr. Gun thanks for the refreshments...I'm still licking my fangs ^..^

Apologies for not being able to make it - prior committment, unfortunately. Would have liked to have met y'all. Perhaps we can have another Limey Beerfest (TM) soon. Ace - hope the kiddies are OK. TwoCents - sorry to hear about the continued dialysis. All the best to you and yours from me and the wife (who knows you from way back, it appears).

Dear All,
Glad to hear that you had a great turn out at Pickled Onion, I will make every effort to ensure that I will be at the next one.
To everyone who sent well wishes, thank you very much, it helps alot more than you know.
You were all in my thoughts last night, and I must admit that I was jealous that I wasn't able to make it, but I was also unable to chat "in real life" with people that I've been corresponding with for the last 20 months.
If it's any inspiration to do it again sooner rather than later, next time the first round is on me.
In closing, I must ask did you talk about "LIB related topics" or general pub chatter.
Best Regards,
Paul

Nice talking with you folks. It ended up being a marathon evening for this poster, and now I've contracted a good dose of the 40 ounce flu ...ughhh.
Big cheers to Smoking Gun for the round... it was the beginning of the end ;-)
Hubble, bubble, toil and trouble
When shall we meet again?
Posted by Git on 22.10.05 at 20:30
I'm pretty bummed I missed it...sounds like it was a good time. Hopefully I will make the next.
Update for those interested on the kids:
My little guy was released this morning and is back to his old self...terrorizing his little sister and his long suffering mother. Amazing how you can be absolutely paniced about your child being sick and then wanting to strangle the little monster a few hours later. ;-) He is a scallywag of the first order when he wants to be.
The other kids are doing well too. My girl didn't throw up at all today and the older boy seems to be fighting this thing off.
Fingers crossed.

I think we should all meet at the time of the Gunpowder plot....Nov 5th 2005....the new plot gets shaken but not stirred!
Posted by Big Bad Wolf ^..^ on 22.10.05 at 20:59
I was at the pickle that night prior to reading the notice about the get together. I arrived late and didn't see Limey or the Wolf man. Did you guys leave before 11:30?
I am sorry to have missed you all
On a side note - I hope none of you good peoples drove home that night after your several rounds of drinks.
I knew the limey guy who died on Kindley field road, just the night before. He had a wife and kids.

It was a pleasure to meet the few of you that I did. Apologies again for the short stay but prior commitments made it impossible to hang around any longer. Many thanks to Smoking Gun for the "chicken and rice", I look forward for the chance to return the favour at a future gathering.
Git, sorry to hear about your 40 ounce flu, but allow me to offer some words of comfort from one of P's literary heroes:
"only dull people are brilliant at breakfast"
Posted by bw&p?? on 24.10.05 at 10:36
Wasn't able to make happy hour - due to family here from Limeyland.
Will certainly make every effort next time.
Best,

Evening,
Although this is a year late posting however I just found out about this party at Pickled Onion, formerly known as Cock'n'Feather, last year, tonight while suring Google.
What got my attention was that Pickled Onion and my father's name, Clarence "Sly" Wade was mentioned.
I'm not sure if most of you know but my father had passed away a month earlier due to Lung Cancer.
If I had known about this get together, I definitely would have showed up for a powwow with people that enjoyed his company.
Regards,
Kevin Wade aka Son of Sly
