Measuring the success of Buy Bermuda
Unsurprisingly, the Chamber of Commerce declared this year's Buy Bermuda campaign to have been a success.
I'm curious to know on what basis they made that assessment. The evidence cited in that article - of "strong sales" at the Phoenix and Friday night shopping being "vibrant" - seems rather anecdotal.
Might sales have been just as high had the campaign not run?

Anyone know anyone who won the raffle thingy where you put your receipt in the box on the way out of the shop?

I found the article quite amusing. With the closing of 'The Big Shop' the other business must have profited in some way... and they seem to have neglected to mention this.

The Gazette "sometimes" lacks a critical eye. Asking the Chamber how Buy Bermuda is going is like asking Alex Scott how BIC performed.
The truth comes out when they speak with the retailers themselves. From the Gazette article today about the sale of Toys n Stuff:
"At the same time, however, [the owner of Toys n Stuff] said that efforts to encourage people to Buy Bermuda at Christmas were 'fairly unsuccessful' with Friday night shopping 'awfully quiet' compared to previous years"

On the other hand HSBC is proud to report that its Buy Bermuda campaign is going very well having bought the Bank of Bermuda, Trimngams, and most of Cabinet. Cheap too!
