Rudy King's bad luck
Poor old Rudolph King is really having a string of bad luck at the moment. There he was, looking forward to hosting a jolly awards ceremony in Bermuda, when suddenly everything started to go pear-shapedi
First it turned out that Halle Berry, Will Smith, and Rick Springfield didn't get his voicemail inviting them to the ceremony. Then his email to Archbishop Desmond Tutu was accidentally deleted by the Archbishop's spam filter. What rotten luck!
Next, his memory started acting up. Poor old Rudy thought that he had been invited here by the Bermuda Alliance for Tourism (BAT) and the Bermuda Hotel Association, when in fact he was the one who had approached them. What's more, he initially forgot that he had been involved in a court case in the Bahamas in 2004 involving a $400,000 credit card debt. Hopefully that was just a result of old age or stress, and not the onset of Alzheimer's disease.
As if that wasn't enough, Cambridge University seems to have deleted Dr. King from their list of students with a PhD, and the website for the King Humanitarian and Global Foundation has been down and suffering from server problems. Rudy must be right vexed! Google doesn't seem to have indexed it either. How frustrating for him! He'd better check that he still has the domain name registered - knowing his luck, the registrar has probably lost the record indicating that he's the owner.
Still, don't worry Rudy! We all have weeks like that from time to time, don't we?

Limey, you also forgot to add that his bad luck stretched to being misinterpreted in the Royal Gazette, resulting in a situation that was embarasing to the whole country of Bermuda.
“I don’t think all your stories were accurate. This is very embarrassing to your country. You are basically harassing people.”
You had better make sure that your facts are right - he's planning legal action against the RG! What a fool.

Yea, the RG exposed him. Well done.

Does this fellow remind anyone else of Abdallah Ahad?

As I live in the Bahamas I am fairly familiar with the antics of this person and the only thing I will say on the topic is what transpired in Bermuda is nothing new for him. I guess he knows that he will get absolutely no where with his agenda here in the Bahamas so he is beginning to travel outside the Bahamas.
After the last hurricane that ravaged Greneda past he was there making all sorts of promises, rebuilding schools, etc.
It good to see he was exposed for what he is.

Limey - are you practising a little satire for some upcoming event?
I figured this guy was a fraud from the moment they said this was the second award ceremony and I couldn't find any info to prove there had been a first!
Guilden, this guy is based in the Bahamas. Got any low down on him?
Posted by SmokingGun on 22.03.06 at 20:13
Never mind - two minds clicking away.... thanks.

We should get him walk down a dark back alley and treat him to some genuine Bermudian hospitality. I'd personally love to thank him for attempting to do business in Bermuda.
Posted by Silencio on 22.03.06 at 20:26
I just got a mental picture of Silencio (not that I know what you look like...) and Desmond Tutu kicking the living crap out of this guy in an alley.
Now THERE is something I'd like to see!
Posted by Uncle Elvis on 22.03.06 at 20:38
Last time I saw Desmond he would need to have grown some to reach that far perhaps being a very small chappie, he may send his wife who is a whole different thing , she is formidable !

Yet another example of blatantly racist and biased reporting from the Royal Gazette.
Posted by sleepy on 22.03.06 at 20:47
Oh yes and the other give-away was that Rick Springfield was getting an award. Rick Springfield? Decent singer, big soap star but Global Visionary? The only global vision he had was to realize he'd make out a lot better by leaving Australia and moving to the US.
BTW Silencio - I hope that's not your true idea of genuine Bermudian hospitality. Besides, have you seen the size of the guy? He looks like he might be able to handle himself pretty well. No thanks.

I'm sure the Bishop could just Smite him instead.

It just as easily be an example of the RG looking for slime and finding it. This story does not disprove bias in any way. At least when placed next to the credit card story.

Here is an article for the Nassau Guardian regarding the $400K credit card case:

"It just as easily be an example of the RG looking for slime and finding it. This story does not disprove bias in any way. At least when placed next to the credit card story." Silencio
Is this really an example of "looking for slime," or is it more a matter of simply being flooded by an overwhelming amount of evidence that Mr King promises may not materialize?
Furthermore, if Mr. King is not able to secure what he has promised and has a poor track record of doing so in the past in other countries, then surely the RG has a responsibility to make Bermudians aware that they may be entering into a potential scam.
But hey, if Mr. King is right like he says he is and was simply misquoted the legal action he is planning to take should make him a rich man if indeed the RG is in the wrong.

"It just as easily be an example of the RG looking for slime and finding it. This story does not disprove bias in any way ..."
As Guilden says, the man is known in the Bahamas and throughout the Caribbean. His sorry track record is just a Google search away. The real mystery to me is not that the RG exposed his shennanigans but that the Fairmont and various local sponsors ever got taken in by him in the first place.
Posted by Prospero on 23.03.06 at 10:44
tilti ... I would add ...
the RG has a responsibility to make Bermudians aware that they may be entering into a potential scam whether it be perpetrated by our visitors, government, elected officials recipients of our tax dollars.

Prospero,
Sadly we are a very gullible people and are taken so easily by every scam merchant that comes along.
Pyramid schemes and some shady stock dealers take us all for a ride it seems.
Hotels have been screwed over and over again by celebrity guests and shady groups who have taken the hotels for a lot of unpaid bills and that includes some pretty big names too.

He sounds like a huge liar to me.

Thanks Guilden. Yowzer. This guys got big ones.

His Excellency Kermit the Fraud
Posted by cool breeze on 23.03.06 at 12:47
Sleepy,
How can you explain the RG exposing an alleged liar, cheat and acam artist as being racist? If he had been white it would have been alright for such an article, which only exposed the truth of the matter?
Posted by Double Standards on 23.03.06 at 12:53
What's with all these guys who get to be called "His Excellency"? Is that what we are going to have to start doing once Alex takes us independent?
Posted by SmokingGun on 23.03.06 at 12:56
Double Standards
I think sleepy was being ironic.

Apparently Dr. King told BAT's Wayne Smith that the URL of his website was www.thekingfoundation.com. However this address is actually registered to an Eric Tidwell in Atlanta, whose email address is @thekingcenter.org.
TheKingCenter.org is a website dedicated to Martin Luther King, with no obvious connection to Dr. Rudolph King or the King Humanitarian and Global Foundation. However, I've emailed Mr. Tidwell to ask whether he knows of them. If I get a reply, I'll post it here.
Posted by The Limey on 23.03.06 at 13:12
I would now, and from here on in, like to be referred to and addressed as "His Excellency, Uncle Elvis II"
That is all for now, my peons.
Posted by His Excellency, Uncle Elvis II on 23.03.06 at 13:22
Personally if I was going to change my name, I don't think I would have picked Kermit Rudolph Casito Laroda
Posted by Two Cents on 23.03.06 at 14:07
BTW - Cool Breeze - That's an excellent title. Well done.
Posted by SmokingGun on 23.03.06 at 14:24
The real question is: To whom is he connected? Who told him to come here?
