Morgan's Point pre-fabs being evacuated

I have heard that the residents of the pre-fabricated emergency homes at Morgan's Point are being moved into hotels.

Earlier this year, Housing Minister David Burch said that the pre-fabs could withstand winds of up to 140 mph, but that plans had been drawn up to evacuate residents to safe shelters should the need arise.

Even though Florence is only predicted to be packing winds of 90 mph, I guess the Ministry has decided not to take any risks.

Given the damage that was done to Ewarts house with Fabian - which I am reliably informed was not a prefab - I bet he winced when Burch said that.

Better safe than politically incorrect.

According to the latest NHC estimates, the storm will be have 90 knot winds by the time it passes very close to our west. That's about 105 mph with higher gusts.

Sounds like this will be a good 'test' for the pre fabs. If they stay standing maybe we can get some more and really create afforable housing.

Nah. Too easy.

'Get Over It!"

Another example of a Park defiled. They turned the Railway Trail (also a protected area under the Parks Act) into an access road for these New Orleans Specials.

I agree with the Colonel's plan to make alternate plans for the people living in the pre fabs......but let us not forget that they are the same type of structures as the temporary classrooms presently at Berkley and Dellwood which all stood up during Fabian with out any damage at all. My bet is that they will all be standing unscratched after Florence has come and gone.

And by the way they are not on the Railway Trail but off to the side on property that used to be a part of the U.S. base before it's return

Is the "Railway Trail " more important than housing needy Bermudains

G'me an'dr elf'nt!

Add the cost of hotel rooms to the cost of these mobile homes, the year worth of storage & finance while they sat in the W&E yard un used, the site preparation for them etc. etc., how much lower cost are these things REALLY under a traditionally built home that people can actually stay in during a storm.

Which hotel is being used? 9 Beaches maybe. They stood up well to Fabian too, & they endured the eyewall longer than any other area of the Island.

Just another example of the PLPs incompetance & inability to manage anything more than a awards function.

Re the Railway Trail - they decided it was easier to turn the park into a road than to use the existing one that ran inside the fence at the Annex. Like at the Botanical Gardens, they eroded the park because they could and noone challenged it. It's got nothing to do with housing, just like the move to take over the Botanical Gardens has little to with health care. It's about power.
