Might I suggest that if the Department of Tourism is planning to distribute any more promotional videos of Bermuda on YouTube, they make them considerably less boring than this one. Show, don't tell.

Disabling comments on them might be a good idea too.

» LATER: It looks like the Department of Tourism probably weren’t the ones who uploaded this to YouTube. Instead, it seems to have been put up there by someone in Germany calling themselves “postpunk”, who presumably nicked the video from the DoT’s website. Moreover, although today’s RG article suggested that YouTube was one of the non-traditional marketing methods being considered, according to the Bermuda Sun’s transcript, Dr. Brown didn’t specifically mention that site.

LOL. Wanker, liar, cheat all in one line for the whole world to see. Way to go Doc. Must be an ex-pat or UBP member. Either that or Lou Hammond's really pissed.

Minister of Snore-ism?

Surely we can do better than that!

Interesting too that in the same group of video's, is one by the National Trust.

I didn't realise the Trust was almost exclusively into flora and fauna. If you take out the rare shot of Bermuda and/or it's architecture, it could have been filmed anywhere.

Is that really the best they can do.

Mind you, I hope the Premier doesn't look at it, it might give him a few ideas as to where to put the next batch of condos.

Yes Limey, you are right, it's kinda boring. Blackpool beach on a hot day even.

That was absolutely terrible. There's only one man that can make that entertaining. And that man is Terry Tate.

I’ve heard a rumor, that following this video, Fox have been headhunting Dr Brown, to offer him a job as a presenter on the travel channel.

After how many millions in consulting fees and this is the best we can do? The comments are priceless.

Get used to it because Cablevision will be carrying a lot of this stuff on the new Government Propaganda Channel.

Not that anyone will watch it. Unless the Ministry of Tourism sponsors "Days of Our Lives" on it.

:)

What a surprise... Dr Ego Brown sticking his face in front of another camera and trying his darndest to master the Queens English.

Let us all genuflect in front of the man solely responsible for the modest rise in tourist business that we have seen over the last few years. It is he and he alone who is our saviour - ignore those who claim that the restrucuring airlines, the hotel management, and the Federal Reserve might have anything to do with it. Let us also ignore the rather more startling numbers posted by our competitors....

At least he can probably claim some credit for recent graduation numbers that will hopefully produce a generation of kitchen porters and bus boys that our new hotels will surely need.

Good work fella.

"That was absolutely terrible. There's only one man that can make that entertaining. And that man is Terry Tate."

Agreed. Where is Terry Tate when you need him?

Dull as the proverbial dishwater. Which is a pity, because this could have been done so well. I am glad to see that the tourism budget is going to good and effective use.

Actually i had seen that clip a few weeks ago when i did a serach on Bermuda. I thought it was a prank or something because i thought You Tube was for people who just pissed around on the net....I really didn't expect to see that kind of thing on there....

1. What potential tourist on this planet gives a damn about who he is or what he does?
2. Where's Doc Feelgood's entourage?
3. Exactly what part of this episode of non-sense portrays Bermuda's appeal as a tourist destination? What ever happened to 'a picture is worth a thousand words'? Instead of listening to this muppet drone on about the cost of a flight (79 dollas...), just show a few stills of the Island. Way more effective that this twit being made up to look like Tubbs from Miami Vice.

Is that a grey sky, or poor quality video? Never realised Bermuda was so windy.

Only only thing that makes Bermuda look worse than that video is this one

Foxy Brown
Can I ask why you wouldn't epect to see promotional video ads on YouTube?

Those wishing to advertise always put them in places where people spend time. It used to be billboard in town centres, ads on the TV in your living room. It's now youtube.

Bermuda Tourism, be it the department or the private hotel and service owners should be all over YouTube

JayBee....I could be wrong. I am not saying that having the ad there is wrong...or right...just pondering on the fact that I live in a third world country and i get goose pimples when i see my island being advertised on CNN with the slogan "once you go you know"...mainly because I didn't realise the beauty of my island as I travel outside of it more than I do inside of it. My people would never use You Tube as a platform for advertising and i just wondered if it was approriate. As I said..i could be wrong...but i wouldn't take that campaign on You Tube seriously.

He's lit wrong. Take off the dark glasses. I can't see the bottom his face. Whats that thing on the left side of the picture? Is there any sun? Make up!

"My people would never use You Tube as a platform for advertising and i just wondered if it was approriate."

Peep Bill Gates' latest release about YouTube and TV on the Internet. It's the future and perhaps we SHOULD be looking to YouTube and the like. Get in early. Strike while the iron is hot.

Well, call me old fashioned, but I was really shocked by the comments.I really did not find them funny, they are akin to grafiti on a wall with the person it is aimed at having no right of reply. Disabling comments of a slanderous nature should be automatic.

"they are akin to grafiti on a wall with the person it is aimed at having no right of reply."

Untrue, everyone can post...even the person they're aimed at.

As dreadful as this video is, I must say that the 'feel the love' commercials I have seen in the US are not half bad. Unfortunately I only ever see them on at five in the morning! As of yet no one has managed to put any of them on youtube.

Why hasn't anyone paid attention to what Limey pointed out? This wasn't put on Youtube by anyone in the dept of tourism. I could have put it on there if I had any motivation (or if it wasn't so embarrasing).

You'd think the Dept of Tourism could have come up with something a little more catchy than that video. A Powerpoint presentation would've conveyed just as much interest and saved several dollars.

Where's the action? If you must keep the beach thing constant, where's a swimmer or kiteboarder? Maybe some kids playing volleyball or (more likely) beach football? The speech itself seemed uninspired and dull on top of that. Hopefully Version 2.0 will be better.

Regarding the YouTube comments, yeah there's some nasty stuff there, but how can you deal with that other than rebuttals?

It appeared to me that this was some sort of "Welcome to the Bda Tourism Website" message. It wasn't THAT bad.

We should be using YouTube etc. and I agree that the comments don't do Bermuda any favours at all.

Personally I'd like to see some flash type games developed and made to be humourous or challenging. If done well enough they would be distributed by e-mail links world-wide without a penny being spent.

Example:

Model the 5th hole at Mid Ocean and have "players" attempt to hit the green from the tee...much like Babe Ruth attempted to do years ago.

Model one of our beaches and have Tony Brandon offshore in a speed boat launching rum swizzles at tourists on the beach trying to get them in their mouths. Get 'em drunk as heck.

Or...on a topical note model Mr. Starling and Smokes in a WW1 2 seater aircraft attempting to straffe the developers of Southlands.

lol

;-)

smith and Triforce. RE YouTube comments.

From what I saw it did not appear to be the forum where one could easily defend oneself or post a rebuttal. I am not familiar with these sites so I just wonder why they do not have to employ comment moderation as this blog does?

SOmetimes a man has to do what a man has to do to get his point across. So check the comments on the Youtube video to get my take.

For an island that's trying to portray itself as the place that attracts the likes of the clients that stay at the Burj, prattling on about $75 airfares isn't exactly lifting the bar.

Personally I'd imagine a three minute video of just the beach with the sound of the surf would do more for our image.

I think i found a better video to poorly show off bermuda.I think it has potential competition for Ewart Browns...
In reply to Twocents video...

"flying" ace - I don't think a pea-shooter has a chance against those almighty bunkers. Wouldn't mind busting up the concrete with a good old Wart Hog though! ;-)

Tony Brannon's remarks on You Tube remind me of a child that can't get his way. Whining and throwing a fit in public.

Why anyone who professes a love for the country and a desire to see tourism return to the island would choose that forum is beyond me.

The comments on You Tube, where so many could access them innocently is akin to s&*ting in your own corn flakes.

I don't disagree with your comments Mr. Brannon, just your "lash out/un-focused" approach at spreading the truth.

lol

The bunkers and concrete might be tough, but the developers themselves should be soft and squishy.

eeeks. I spelled your name wrong in my post Tony...sorry, should have been Brannon, not Brandon.
